Malachite – Congo

This malachite specimen from the Congo measures 10.5 × 5.5 cm and weighs 248 g. Intense green coloration and distinctive radial, banded crystal formations give it an organic, almost sculptural surface, with each specimen's banding pattern entirely unique. Malachite forms in the oxidized zone of copper ore deposits, and the Democratic Republic of Congo's Katanga region is one of the world's most significant sources of high-quality malachite. Its rich structure has made it a prized decorative and lapidary mineral for centuries.
